    Japan's manufacturing sector contracted in October at the fastest pace in 19 months due to a sharper decline in new orders, a private-sector survey showed on Friday. The S&P Global flash Japan Manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) fell to 48.3 in October from a final reading of 48.5 in September, hitting the lowest since March 2024. It has remained below the 50.0 threshold that separates growth from contraction for four straight months. Among the sub-indexes, the decrease in factory output slowed from September, but new orders shrank at a faster rate, highlighting sluggish demand for manufacturers. ... (full story)

I somehow doubt the stimulus will work to tackle inflation in the long run. What they need is to raise rates and have a stronger currency.

Don't forget that the BoJ is squeezed by enormous domestic debt. By carelessly raising rates, it will create a noose for itself, and the costs of maintaining the debt and other debts will simply explode. You could say that Japan has practically no choice. They can't tighten monetary policy because they entered a deadlock long ago. On the one hand, they have enormous debt (240% of GDP, of course, domestic), on the other hand, they have problems with an aging population, debt-servicing costs, and low economic growth. Japan is facing a gigantic debt crisis, because their economy can only shrink in the long run. They are walking an increasingly tight rope.

the last three times boj raise interest rate is when usdjpy is above 150.
boj drag their feet if below 150.0 if the carry trade dont want to kill the gooden goose, just send below 150 befire the meeting.

Looks like BOJ is worried only if USD/JPY goes higher. But looking at the other yen pairs, EURJPY,CHFJPY,GBPJPY have all skyrocketed. Don't these currencies matter too?
