The IMF and World Bank meet in troubled times
Complete with an array of central bankers and finance ministers from various countries, the annual meetings of the IMF and World Bank will unfold this week in Washington. They will issue sober but diplomatically worded advice to the titans of global capitalism on the travails of their system. However, even as these two institutions, which date back to the Bretton Woods Conference of 1944, try to come to terms with global uncertainties, they face a crisis of legitimacy and relevance of their own, which may well prove to be incurable.
