Japan’s main opposition party eyes unified PM candidate to block Sanae Takaichi

The breakdown of the coalition is a result of distrust of Koumei party against the Liberal Democratic Party (notice: liberal in name, but conservative) new leader, which was elected mainly by the ex-Abe faction known for suspicion of mishandling of fundraising money sought as corruption, and the Aso faction, which has called the Koumei Party a cancer turmoil assumed for disruption of conservative values of the Liberal Democratic Party, while the Koumei Party is supported by the Souka Gakkai, a modern era Buddhist faction. The Souka Gakkai has strong backbone of organized votes that had provided the Liberal Democratic Party supplemental votes in contested districts, which led to a long time majority for the coalition in the parliament. Within the second ballot of the party leader election of Liberal Democratic Party, Aso faction leader Aso Taro, also a former Prime Minister, was assumed to lean his faction votes towards candidate Takaichi Sanae, by comparing challenger Koizumi Shinjiro for potential gains into position within the steering wheel of the party for his faction in trade of faction votes, according to local news outlets.

The coalition breakaway was concluded after Party Leader Takaichi Sanae did not promise at the meeting with Koumei Party representative on political reforms for corruption avoidance of fundraising, which denied chances for the Liberal Democratic Party to form a coalition with other possible alternatives because the total will not reach the seats needed for the majority. Meanwhile, this provided opportunities for minority parties to form a multiparty coalition under People's Democratic Party supported by commercial labor unions, which Koumei Party may also join, but not decided yet. People's Democratic Party founder Tamaki Yuichiro is considered a possible figure to be elected as the next Prime Minister, if enough votes are secured with cooperation by other minority parties. Tamaki Yuichiro also promotes tax cuts, and fiscal stimulus, which the economical policy would not differ much from Takaichi Sanae, except for the party line of pro-business or pro-labor union. Therefore, the stock market and bond market of Japan would likely not change the trend, although short term volatility may increase for ease of unpredictability and more chance of stability of the politics. Meanwhile, pressure will continue to grow for Bank of Japan to increase the interest rate by fiscal stimulus policies and cost push inflation, while Japan has maintained a low unemployment rate, decreasing pressure of lowered interest rate. Any administration afterward would likely not be able to interrupt the increase in interest rate, due to possible critical objection from the elephant in the room of a white house.
