So what was someone saying on another thread yesterday that a few recent Presidents had done tariffs?

What are the facts?

Anyway, it isn't interesting that Trump doesn't highlight the legal side of things for his case. Rather, what the article calls existential things. It's the Sup Ct, after all.

Interesting indeed, but without knowing the relevant rules of evidence in the USA, I think that whatever Trump has said in his tweets or whatever would either not be admissible or deemed irrelevant and dismissed as being just grandiose exaggerations for which Trump has a well-known reputation.

Honestly, is there a single person on this forum who actually believes anything he says?

WRONG - Congress passed the ability to tarriff to the president as long as the POTUS informed a select group of senators and House representatives; i.e., Congress signed over their rights - the question is this: Was it a temporary authorization or does it set a precedent?

Supreme Court will decide - personally I believe it could go either way.

It appears that Clinton was quite the economic reformer. I knew he favoured and achieved fiscal surpluses. Opposite of Trump in so many respects of substance. Way off topic, but it is illuminating. Read it and weep, MAGA.

Tariffs aren't illegal even by WTO standards. "Trump's" Tariffs are illegal. He thinks he is the all powerful figure in USA who can set tariffs on his whim bcoz the World needs USA and he is the King. Except, he isn't the King. He is the CEO, Congress is the Board of Directors with no Managing Directors. The Board decides what to do. The Board should be setting Tariffs. And for every Tariff setting, Board would have to meet, discuss the reasons, set rules and conditions to activate Tariffs. Then Send Trump to sign Trade Deals. Not Trump doing everything on his own. That's the part that's illegal. If SCOTUS does rule against Trump, Congress could reinstate those Tariffs and probably not as outrageous as Trump put them. Only all trade deals would be redone with other Countries. And Congress would debate long term issues unlike Trump who thinks long-term is alright bcoz everyone likes me
