The Bank of England is about to ramp up its quantitative tightening plans this month. During both the Covid crisis and Liz Truss's short-lived interest rate intervention, the BOE stockpiled bonds - particularly those with longer maturities. Now they face a tough reality: they'll probably have to slash prices in the secondary market to create enough incentive for potential buyers. Even with these discounts, the effort might fall flat as the market could simply be overwhelmed by this flood of bonds.
