Gold prices have shattered records as investors, unsettled by inflation and the policies of US President Trump, have increasingly sought safety from the economic turmoil in his wake. The precious metal, traditionally a haven for investors in times of uncertainty, climbed as high as $3,578.40 per ounce on Tuesday before settling back to $3,489.68. The price of silver was also up 1.8 per cent at $41.46 an ounce, streaking past $40 an ounce for the first time since 2011.
