you're probably right, but there's another problem with that, the Democrats can't run the country like that, they would need actual trade deals, and I'm not sure the rest of the world will accept that this will be the new normal. They do now because everyone is betting Trump is just a floating turd.

It's not a short-term project, and what you see in the news coming out of the Trump administration is a sort of "break it and remake it approach".
It appears to the rest of the world that it is a short term project. Thought bubbles. Wishy washy. Dysfunctional.

A deal is a deal. When you make a contract with someone, from anything to buying a toaster to a house, that contract is good, and can be relied upon.

And so it is with international deals. That Trump rips up so many established deals that were painstakingly negotiated is a measure of the respect that the rest of the world thinks of him.

These aren't trade deals. Those take years to make and are based on clearly defined rules on extensive documents. These are toilet paper to appease and distract the orange turd.

I think you're looking at things in black and white terms. But nothing is really like that. Especially in the US, there's no disagreement on direction but there is debate over which path to take. So you'll see a continuation of these policies, likely with some change of tactics, should a Democrat win the next election. Same as Trump and Biden continued policies such as the Obama era pivot to Asia: among other things.

When it comes to these negotiations - the direction is rewiring international trade. It's not a short-term project, and what you see in the news coming out of the Trump administration is a sort of "break it and remake it approach". In that sense, I'm sure the Dems are quite happy with it all because he's taken many of the tough decisions they didn't want to be blamed for!
