Chile halts world's largest underground copper mine
Chilean Mining Minister Aurora Williams ordered the suspension of operations at El Teniente on Friday, the world's largest underground copper mine, following a deadly collapse that left at least one worker dead, nine injured and five others missing. The incident occurred on Thursday after a magnitude 4.2 quake triggered a landslide deep inside the mine. Williams, who traveled to the site, described the incident as a "major mining accident."
