Was waiting for this one lol, the implication being that they boosted the numbers for Trump as well? Good riddance to McEntarfer though, tough to confuse 100k and 10k without complete incompetence.

Also why did he put his own name in quotes?

Everyone wants lower interest rates. However there is a differnce between lowering rates because inflation is under control (good news) and lowering inflation because employment is falling (bad news). At the moment inflation is not under control but employment is falling, thats a bad situation to try and improve by lowering rates. Thats why stocks fell. Normally they would rise on lower rates. 2 cuts back on the table this year......but with no meeting in August and maybe higher inflation shows up in August.......could be fun times. Trump was desperate for Fed to cut rates before inflation from tarriffs was showing up in the data. He cant keep a lid on it for much longer

The clear message being that if you are responsible for producing US economic and labor statistics and you want to keep your job, you had better produce statistics that make Trump look good.

China and Russia have long been accused of doctoring their economic statistics to hide problems in their economies. Now the US can join that club.

The government has to underestimate inflation, they have no fiscal choice. Telling people real inflation numbers would cost the government too much. Every administration has done that for decades.
