You cannot deal with inflation if the policy is completely loose, and it is. Much higher rates are required. Also, any rate cut made recently has backfired spectacularly, pushing rates up across the board, especially on the long end. This is the market saying: the policy is already too loose, getting it even looser is risking another period of heavy currency devaluation. Market has been right all along, Fed wasn't. Market suggested even higher rates, however constant central banks intervention in the debt market doesn't let the market function as it should, thus artificially supressing rates.

Anyone who pays attention to prices knows that current prices are just too high. They were so ridiculously scared of deflation that they let inflation run way too hot for too long. I’m not sure the Fed has ever been right. Waited too long to raise rates a few years ago, waited too long to lower rates in 2008, enables insane levels if government overspending by printing money to buy treasuries. Anyone else in favor of abolishing the Fed?

Markets can set rates most all the time. The government can step in when, and only when, an actual crisis creates measurable dislocation.
