Trump: Costs down, No Inflation. Very different from what the Fed, and Fake News Media, were hoping for!

Obviously, I understand such statements are hyperbole. I do believe (please let it be true) that he knows there is still SOME inflation. I could even give some leniency and assume he means there is no "overly excessive" inflation (if "acceptable" is 2%, then we are close to that). HOWEVER, that is not what he said in the snippet sent out to tens of millions if followers, and, by extension, the world. Thus, I get scared because the masses that follow his words and believe them (either naively, lazily, or ineptly....that is open for case by case interpretation) are the same masses that will impact the rest of us.

I know it is too much to expect a well-informed electorate these days (after all, the "algorithm" is pushing your own point of view back on you, requiring people to actively seek opposing viewpoints and weigh the evidence), but when "leaders" (i.e. those in which we are supposed to "trust") are playing games publicly, it makes for shaky ground.

BUT, we care about trading. As much as he whines, the FACTS stand. The Fed has a position that they cannot move until more information (data) about how the tariffs will affect the economy occurs. Since there are no deals in place yet (other than the UK MOU), it is nearly impossible for the FED to react to those effects.

You see it in the /zb: rate cuts being pushed to next year and lower bond prices.

Weird time indeed. I could have done WITHOUT the insane chop of April. I think that probably broke/hurt a lot of traders while longer term investors are doing just fine. There are no doubt folks on here who will say "it was my best trading time ever!", which is great. High VIX = lots of opportunities. BUT, if you are wrong and caught in a 4/6/12% day with excessive size, the cost is huge and takes a long time to overcome.

We shall see where the next few months takes us. With a VIX @ 22, it is still going to be a turbulent environment for a while.

FED fully believes its policy is rightly positioned. FED will not move, not until TRUMP and his Team can show their stand on CHINA and EUROPE deals!!!

Irrespective of the rest of his comments, can someone explain to me how this math works: no inflation =0% (or less). BUT, we have inflation. So, trump math: 0 = !0? The universe is collapsing upon itself!!!!!

Oh, and I love his costs down math too: gas is $1.98 in many places. Uh huh. AAA has a nice "average gas price" chart.

Just goes to show how deep the discount mechanism is becoming for these tweets. 3 months ago, every single announcement was a 3% move. Now the market is saying "show me the money" (i.e. give me something of value or we ignore your comments/quickly reverse any initial, algo reactions to them)

Careful. If it is $1.98 at a single pump, he is "telling the truth". That's why statements are so crazy. They have to be qualified....but no one ever cares to do that.

As much as I hate to admit it, Trump is more right than wrong on this. Of course, more right than wrong is still a pretty low standard for the president.

It's weird we are in a time where it's much more easier than any time period prior to actually verify information factually with the internet and etc. This is what people mean when they say the rich our out of touch with pricing for normal baskets of goods. I'd rather him show us what information is he looking at that says inflation is 0 and cost are down. I've increased my prices on my goods that I sell to my customers by about 7% this year alone. I don't think I'll be reducing if anything it'll probably be another increase coming down the pipeline if my manufacturer increase their prices again.

All to say it's a very weird time we are in currently.
