Tariffs will stay in place for WEEKS????

This is an admission of a failed policy that never should have been implemented in the first place. Tariffs are temporary because now everyone realizes they were a stupid idea that will only cause economic turmoil and -- more importantly for the Administration -- political pain for Republicans. And what foreign country will now take them seriously if their staying power is weeks, and not years?

This is actually good news.

Just 2 days ago Trump said his policies will never change, now its weeks. Imagine having a company outside of the US, then move everything back, spend billions on it...and then they would say tariffs are gone, sorry bro.

I posted while not logged in, so this may duplicate, BUT.....to be fair, this FF post is somewhat out of context. I won't defend the interview, because I can't stand when people don't answer the friggin questions.....but Lutnick didn't really say this of his own volition. Rather, he responded to someone else's comments, by stating "of COURSE the tariffs will be in in place for days or weeks."

I can't read the entire WSJ article as I am not a subscriber, so perhaps the article stated this as well, but for those who just read the FF snippet above, a deeper dive is worth it to avoid trading on partial news.

The handwriting on the wall is starting to be seen more and more. Even co-POTUS Mush attacked tariffs at the end of the week. There are the first GOP politicos doing the same, to be followed by more, maybe. I don't think Trump will relinquish his fossilized view on tariffs though, and will have to be repudiated by a growing groundswell of the GOP and his base. Probably a nice Black Monday would make sense...let's see if the circuit breakers still work. Limit down @ -7%.

For what it's worth, Lutnick and Trump have not been saying the same thing many times over the past few weeks. I think we all know where decisions are coming from in this administration. One would hope there is some consistency between messaging, but, obviously, that has not been the case thus far.

For a secretary to say that tariffs will be in place for weeks seems like an egregious miscalculation that will be overruled by a president who's trying to stand tough. Why on Earth would anybody bend if they thought tariffs would be gone in a week based on negotiations?

On one hand, I could see this statement reflecting the confidence in president 's capacity to make deals. On the other, I could see it as a huge misinterpretation or miscategorization of the actual premise. For example, what if Lutnik meant that the full amount of terrace would be in place for weeks before negotiations could be finalized? Similar to the information about 10% across the board. Tariffs being blown out of the water 5 minutes later by a foam board.

The bears are having their day in the Sun. I guess they earned it, but I did not think they should receive 6 months worth of gains in a few weeks (or even days). Seems a bit quick to me.
