    Scott Morrison has dismissed criticism of his $1.2 billion stimulus package for the tourism industry. The prime minister is offering 800,000 discounted airline tickets as well as loans for struggling tourism operators, designed to ease the pain when JobKeeper wage subsidies end this month. The major airlines have lauded the half-price return flights to more than a dozen regional tourism destinations. free money isnt enough for you? someone gives you 1 inch you say thank you. dont complain about a gift and ask for 1 foot. When the airlines charge me so much damn money for flights, they didnt care that I had liquidity issues. Some business didnt even get the money.

this post is totally appropriate here, many months later

it is fiscal suicide to expect the US Taxpayer to bailout the large corporations that took all the shareholder profits and cheap QE investment money in the good times , but no, the taxpayer must always pay in the bad times.

using the Norwegian airlines case ( where a genuinely ethically funded airline providing cheap fares in good times did warrant a bailout), but this highlights the converse - where a corporate greedy company has milked the system for decades providing sequestered profits for its big money owners ......now qualifies for Taxpayer bailouts notwithstanding sitting on huge pools of cash reserves!

Australia loves middle-class welfare to those who feel they are entitled.. There is no justification for such an utter waste of other peoples money on ungrateful and spoilt brats. To go on a holiday. Beggars belief.

"This package will take more tourists to our hotels and cafes, taking tours and exploring our backyard." (said Prime Minister Morrison).

As for subsidising the airllines, well that has ever only worked never in a small domestic Australian market which barely supports just one major carrier. There does exist a strong case for supporting small regional routes often serviced by niche players, but they don't have the votes.
