HalifaxCB replied Sep 21, 2007The big issue is going to be what happens on the stock markets in the last hour, as it's a quadruple witching hour and often a time for big volatility. url

HalifaxCB replied Sep 21, 2007Looks like Cad is finally getting hurt by it's strength; moderate failure in both retail and core retail sales. Plus last night the CBC (our national broadcaster) apparently was indicating $/Cad could go to 0.9 (another buy signal)....Now if only ...

HalifaxCB replied Sep 21, 2007It's friday, a lot of specs will be closing trades for the w/e, especially after a week like this one. But the size of the move is not all that unusual...

HalifaxCB replied Sep 20, 2007I'm kinda partial to moral hazards myself
BTW, it's almost like you can follow the progress of the hearings on the euro charts, it keeps rising while folks begin to realize there may be trouble in the offing, and then they fall asleep

HalifaxCB replied Sep 20, 2007Getting an up-move spike however after the Philly Fed results....so I'm out. Note however that it did cross the 1.38 retracement level and touched 1.5 Curious how that stuff works

HalifaxCB replied Sep 20, 2007I would assume that with the Dow opening down, money is moving from USD/JPY to other crosses. I haven't checkes the other JPY crosses however....But USD/JPY was a sell from the time it crossed the mnor rising support line drawn from the Sept 10 lows ...

HalifaxCB replied Sep 20, 2007The idea is that it would just stabilize, then a single ccy could be made taking that into account (as was done for all the various ccy's that formed the euro). But for the peso to stabilize, Mexico is going to have to deal with endemic corruption ...

HalifaxCB replied Sep 20, 2007I'd give it time. FWIW, I've got the 1.618 extension (from the late July low to the Aug high) at about 7 pips above parity, and usually it goes a bit further befor retracing. Especially when there may be a load of stops underneath....

HalifaxCB replied Sep 20, 2007Canada first floated it's ccy back in the 50's. P*ssed off a lot of Breton Woods supporters, but hey, c'est la vie. There too many young'uns who seem to think that USD/CAD should not be around parity, that somehow this "fall" from 1.6+ is ...

HalifaxCB replied Sep 20, 2007I think the biggest problem is that we export tons of other stuff to the states, and that drops as the Cad strengthens. Oil the US is pretty well stuck for, but other goods & services - from auto manufacturing to software development - get adversely ...
