Yes I agree, I use a currency strength meter to find the most trending pair at any one time and minimise the risk of running into consolidations and reversals

I've never tried trading the news with this method before, but today I couldnt help noticing the accumulation of short positions ahead of the USD news, so joined them with a position of my own. Close by TP but there were many more pips on the table
