The problem is with the download. It's not connecting to the URL. Ignore the file error, that's just because it hasn't saved any files yet. Look for firewall or proxy problems etc. If you use a proxy, then make sure you can reach forexfactory.com ...

In real life all Martingales are limited, so if you are going to use this definition then Martingale doesn't actually exist outside mathematical theory.

Aside from the additional costs, averaging down is mathematically the same as taking a loss and then opening a larger position. So I don't see how averaging is not a form of martingale.

I never found the "smooth" trend definition to be useful. I don't think it is a particularly good match for real price moves. For me, smooth = delayed = useless. I now do it the other way. I remove the oscillations to find the trend.
