Not sure what broker you are speaking of. Mine is ECN with very thin spreads and $3.50 per lot commission.

My broker is $5 flat + 1.9 %. They now offer e-wallet which is even less. Bank wires are always expensive but this is of course due to the banks themselves.

Yes, the amount on deposit with the broker is just a small % of my actual trading capital. The majority is held in my bank and transferred if and when needed.
