Strange you say that - following trends never comes up amongst the top reasons why retail traders fail. most traders don't even accept trend-following as a viable form of trading.
Never Go Against the Trend?

Isn't it easier walking downhill than up? And if the whole crowd is walking north, isn't it going to be hard and uncomfortable walking south? And when the blizzard and a gale are in your face, isn't it more sensible to turn your back on it and go ...
Never Go Against the Trend?

Obviously we all see two trends on many charts - short-term and long-term. Trade long-term with the long-term trend and short-term with the short-term trend. But its not just a matter of avoiding excessive risk of capital loss, opportunity loss must ...
Never Go Against the Trend?

According to the U.S. Small Business Administration, over 50% of small businesses fail in the first year and 95% fail within the first five years. So it would not be surprising if 95% of traders failed in a similar (or even a shorter period, given ...
What makes You lose in the market?

Agreed. Mental approach is going to be responsible for most of the probability of a trader's success. The rest is down to good technical or fundamental analysis and awareness of market behaviour.

This makes sense. Tight stops have bled many traders' accounts dry even while they thought they were reducing their risk. Stops, whether manual or pre-set, are an indicator of negative TA, not of acceptable capital loss.
What makes You lose in the market?

Yes, obviously. Don't take too literally which ratios I talked about - it could be win rate, it could be r;r, it could be average winner: average loser. Doesn't matter. Principle's the same.
What makes You lose in the market?

What makes me lose is statistics. Its the other side of the win rate of my strategy, the "lose rate". I always follow the strategy and if the win rate is 51%, then I lose on 49%, if the win rate is 99%, I lose 1%. The only way to increase the lose ...

This is not simple. In fact its complicated. In fact, if you think its this simple, then its more complicated than you can possibly understand.
Trading System - Trade with the Trend

I used to trade with Fins as well but not for about 10 years. I never used them to day-trade except for a bit of a flutter so they may have been doing what you said, a couple of pips here and there, who knows? But this was years ago surely? Back ...

What's a forum for? Exchange of opinion or exchange of information? The thread to this point is notable for the exchange of opinion from those who distrust private retail FX trading, and information between those likely to be affected by the ESMA ...

Its true that the inexperienced and unskilled new trader can easily get caught out by high leverage. The firms could do a better job of educating new traders and I said as much in my response to ESMA. But after all, leverage is only like the ...

That might be wishful thinking. FCA told me that they await the ESMA decision post-consultation and they will then follow what ESMA say. That's very possibly going to be before Brexit: having got some new regulations in place, FCA may find no ...

Yes argument. This is your argument. Its your argument that "The USA took steps to limit risk and leverage, Europe will follow suit and no amount of bleating to your broker will stop it and tbh I’ll be happy to see the back of the likes of IG, ...

You ask why it matters, but I already said I don't wan to trade with a firm that is eventually going to fleece me. I'd rather get out before then. But though you're vehement that I should get out, you can't tell me why, or how you know this, or ...

That's OK mate, no problems here. I hesitate to recommend a particular firm unless you're already committed to spreadbetting. What I would do is not necessarily what you would do, but assuming you're in the UK, go for a UK-based and FCA-regulated ...
