I would have gone long on USDCAD. I saw the spread widen to about 10 or 12 a few seconds before news and I didn't pull the trigger. Saved myself a loss. I'm not sure there is a safe news pair left on OANDA

OANDA widened the spread to about 16 pips immediately before USDCAD GDP release. I had a spread indicator on my MT4, saw it and saved myself a 16 pip loss.

I'm not an expert like like Tony. I hope he answers this. I try to avoid them by avoiding simultaneous news releases. It seems like that is the cause of whipsaws.

Because you can easily get stopped out on both trades in a whipsaw.

If you place your trade immediately after the news is announced, you may trade into the widened spread and immediately be stopped out.
