I posted answer here but somebody deleted the post.. not sure what the heck I did wrong. Try this and see if it pass through the posting police.... The latest version of wine 0.9.35 seems to be the cause of the problem.

slow as hell??? something must be wrong with your setup.. I run at least 3 demos at once plus live account plus rest of normal software VOIP etc.... AND play can play wow at same time... all on a 2 gig AMD... try that on winblows (on a NICE machine)!

Metatrader runs fine under Ubuntu and I have set it up for a few others. Here is process... From a fresh wine install....(apt get works just fine) in console ~ type "winecfg" change windows mode to windows XP and then close wine configuration copy ...

you don't have to report under 1256 unless you traded contracts ... you can report forex trades as simple interest, check this out ... url and by my girlfriend CPA confirmed that was her understanding as well

I tried vpsland on their windows machine and the MT4 would get terminated randomly. Their support was not helpful in resolving the issues. I might try it again with vmware under linux (what I am doing at home) but I doubt it. I have cable connection ...

I wish... they have great spreads and you can trade just about anything.. they provide access via API and there are all kinds of 3rd party apps that access ib... maybe it can be done but no one has wrote the api interface yet.
