Commodities have fared well in the first half of 2019, with a key index that tracks them already set to recoup the loss it suffered last year. This year, through Thursday, the S&P GSCI Index SPGSCI, -1.15% which tracks 24 commodities across five sectors, with energy its largest weighting, was up about 15%. It fell just over 15% last year.
