In May 2026, DG ECFIN’s flash estimate of the consumer confidence indicator showed a slight rebound in both the EU (+1.7 percentage points (pps) compared with April) and the euro area (+1.6 pps). At -18.2 (EU) and -19.0 (euro area), consumer confidence remains well below its long-term average and below the level observed before the outbreak of the conflict in the Middle East.
