FCC adopts rules to accelerate copper retirement plans in US

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has adopted rules that will accelerate the retirement of copper networks in the US. As part of these new rules, the regulator has reduced regulatory requirements around network transitions, while granting companies the authority to "grandfather legacy voice services, lower-speed data telecommunications services, and interconnected Voice over IP (VoIP) service provisioned over copper wire."
