South African Consumer Price Index - January 2026

Annual consumer price inflation was 3,5% in January 2026, down from 3,6% in December 2025. The CPI increased by 0,2% month-on-month in January 2026. The main contributors to the 3,5% annual inflation rate were: • housing and utilities (4,8% and contributing 1,2 percentage points); • food and non-alcoholic beverages (4,4% and contributing 0,8 of a percentage point); and • insurance and financial services (6,8% and contributing 0,7 of a percentage point) – see Table C and Table E.
