German retail sales in 2025 will be 2.7% higher in real terms than in the previous year

According to preliminary results from the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), retail sales in Germany increased by 2.7% in real terms (adjusted for inflation) and by 3.8% in nominal terms (not adjusted for inflation) in 2025 compared to 2024. This first available real annual result is thus 0.3 percentage points higher than the estimate published on January 7, 2026. After a significant increase in real retail sales in the first half of 2025 compared to the same period of the previous year (+3.8%), growth slowed in the second half of 2025 (+1.7%).
