SNB monetary policy assessment of December 2025: Summary of discussion
At the monetary policy assessment of 9 and 10 December 2025, the Governing Board of the Swiss National Bank decided to leave the SNB policy rate unchanged at 0%. The SNB communicated its monetary policy decision to the public on 11 December 2025. The decision was preceded by an analysis and discussion of the monetary policy conditions and the economic conditions. Areas covered included the situation on the financial markets, monetary indicators, international conditions, the economic situation and the economic outlook for Switzerland. For a very long time, buying and owning a home was considered the pinnacle of the American Dream. It was the reward for working hard, and doing the right thing, but now, because of the Record High Inflation caused by Joe Biden and the Democrats in Congress, that American Dream is increasingly out of reach for far too many people, especially younger Americans. It is for that reason, and much more, that I am immediately taking steps to ban large institutional investors from buying more single-family homes, and I will be calling on Congress to codify it. The Federal Reserve Bank of New Yorks Center for Microeconomic Data today released the December 2025 Survey of Consumer Expectations, which shows that households inflation expectations increased at the short-term horizon and remained unchanged at the medium- and longer-term horizons. Job finding expectations declined to a series lowthe second series low for the measure in six monthswhile job loss expectations also worsened. Spending and household income growth expectations remained largely unchanged. Delinquency expectations deteriorated to the highest level since the onset of the pandemic, but respondents were more optimistic about their future household financial situations. The survey was fielded from December 1 through December 31, 2025. The main findings from the December 2025 Survey are: NY Fed 1 Yr Inflation Expectations Actual 3.42% (Forecast -, Previous 3.2%) NY Fed: 3-year and 5-year inflation expectations unchanged at 3%.
