Economic activity in the manufacturing sector contracted in December for the 10th consecutive month, following a two-month expansion preceded by 26 straight months of contraction, say the nation's supply executives in the latest ISM® Manufacturing PMI® Report. The report was issued today by Susan Spence, MBA, Chair of the Institute for Supply Management® (ISM®) Manufacturing Business Survey Committee. Manufacturing sector activity in the United States declined further in December compared to the previous month, hitting a 14-month low, the Institute for Supply Management (ISM) stated in its report on Monday. The Manufacturing PMI landed at 47.9%, down from November's 48.2% and the lowest reading of 2025. The Employment Index rose by 0.9 percentage point month-over-month to 44.9%, while the Production Index declined by 0.4 percentage point to reach 51% in December.
