Collectors were in for a penny, in for hundreds of thousands at a recent coin auction in California. The final pennies to ever be minted in the U.S. sold for a record sum at Stack’s Bowers Galleries on December 11, with 696 one-cent coins collectively hammering down for more than $16 million.
