Few first speeches of new Federal Reserve Governors attract much attention, but Stephen Miran’s was bound to. President Trump had complained for months that the Fed was keeping monetary policy too tight, and then nominated Miran to help change that. Miran’s CV does not suggest that he is a fringe pick. He studied economics, philosophy and mathematics at Boston University, earned a PhD in economics at Harvard, worked in markets and at the Treasury, and most recently chaired the Council of Economic Advisers.
