The number of job openings was unchanged at 7.2 million in August, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Over the month, both hires and total separations were little changed at 5.1 million. Within separations, both quits (3.1 million) and layoffs and discharges (1.7 million) were little changed. This release includes estimates of the number and rate of job openings, hires, and separations for the total nonfarm sector, by industry, and by establishment size class. The number of job openings in the United States remained unchanged at 7.2 million in August, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics report published on Tuesday showed. Additionally, the job openings rate was also unchanged at 4.3%. According to the Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS), the number of hires stood at 5.1 million in August, as opposed to 5.3 million in the previous month. The rate of hires came in at 3.2%. The number and rate of total separations in the reported month was little changed at 5.1 million to 3.2%.
