The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.2 percent for the week ending April 26, a decrease of 0.1 percentage point from the previous week's unrevised rate. The number of Americans filing new applications for unemployment benefits fell more than expected last week, suggesting the labor market continued to chug along, though risks are mounting from tariffs. Initial claims for state unemployment benefits dropped 13,000 to a seasonally adjusted 228,000 for the week ended May 3, the Labor Department said on Thursday.
