US labour market report: Big positive surprise

Nonfarm payrolls increased by a staggering 266k in November, while the October figure was also revised up to 156k (from 128k). The 3-month average payroll number increased from 189k to 205k (highest since January), while the 12-month average rose slightly from 178k to 183k. The generally weaker trend with hiring in the private sector did not appear in the November figure with service-producing corporates adding 206k, while goods-producing at increased 48k – primarily due to the reversal of the strike among General Motors employees (see more below).
