China exports fall again in worst run for three years, but October drop smaller than expected

China’s exports fell for the third month in a row last month, the worst run since 2016, according to new data released on Friday, but the drop in October was smaller than expected. Exports declined by 0.9 per cent in October, above a Bloomberg poll of analysts which had predicted a 3.9 per cent slump. This was also better than September’s 3.2 per cent fall. The modest drop in exports in October is the latest piece of better than expected data on the Chinese economy.
