Silver production in Peru down 9.8% in March 2022, ministry says

According to the Ministry of Energy and Mines of Peru (MINEM), silver production in Peru, the world’s third largest silver producing country, was 241,446 kg in March 2022, a decline of 9.8% compared to 267,681 kg mined in March 2021. MINEM said that similarly, production during the first quarter showed a contraction of 6.6%, due to the lower production reported by Compañía Minera Ares S.A.C. (-3.1%), Minera Chinalco Peru S.A. (-9.4%) as a result of the shutdown of its plant for equipment maintenance that took place from March 26 to April 4; and by Compañía de Minas Buenaventura S.A.A. (-50.0%).
