Unemployment has dropped to 4.2%, the lowest in Australia since the global financial crisis

Australia has recorded a jobs boom following the most recent set of lockdowns, with unemployment plunging to just 4.2% in December 2021 — the largest dip since the global financial crisis. The unemployment rate dropped from 4.6% to 4.2%, with an estimated 64,800 jobs created between November and December, according to Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) labour force data released on Thursday. The fall in unemployment followed a similar decrease of 69,000 people in November and a 0.6 percentage point fall in the unemployment rate.
