One community in southern Peru says it won’t disrupt Las Bambas operations

Representatives of MMG Ltd’s Las Bambas, the Peruvian Ministry of Labour, the Ministry of Energy and Mines, the Presidency of the Ministers’ Council (PCM) and the community of Challhuahuacho signed a memorandum of understanding in which the latter commits to avoid blockades on the Southern Mining Corridor. The runway is a key distribution corridor used by Las Bambas to transport copper concentrate, people and supplies. Blockades led by different communities along the road, frequently followed by shipment suspensions, have been a common issue affecting the massive copper mine since its 2015-16 ramp-up.
