India's September automobile production and sales dropped by about 20pc on the year as a global shortage of semiconductors continued to hurt the sector. Total automobile production in September fell by 19pc on the year to 2.13mn vehicles, but rose by 7.1pc on the month, while total auto sales dropped by 20pc to 1.72mn from the previous year but rose 8.2pc from August, according to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).
