Metal futures: Copper breaks $9,000/t

Base metal prices on the London Metal Exchange (LME) continued to climb Monday, with copper prices breaching $9,000/t for the first time in almost a decade as markets were boosted by positive sentiment surrounding Covid-19 vaccine rollouts and economic stimulus packages. Three-month LME copper prices surged past $9,000/t for the first time since September 2011, climbing 3.1pc from Friday's official session to $9,033/t. Comex's next most active month copper contract continued to set fresh highs by settling 1.6pc higher at $4.14/lb.
