What Drives the Price of Gold?
The price of gold changes daily, as do the influencing price factors. Like most other assets, gold prices can shift for many different financial reasons. If you’re not tracking gold prices, changes in interest rates, inflation predictions, and stock market movements could all potentially catch you off guard.

  1. A primary price driver is gold supply and demand, and accordingly, global income growth.

As global incomes increase, so can demand for gold jewelry and technology that includes gold, like smartphones, tablets, and computers. Income growth also encourages savings, which helps boost the demand for gold bullion coins and gold bars.

When demand is high and supply is limited, the purchase price of gold coins and bars tend to increase. It's basic supply and demand.

  1. The strength of the U.S. dollar can also influence gold prices. The two generally have an inverse relationship. A strong dollar can sometimes discourage gold buyers, as gold becomes more expensive to purchase. When the dollar is weak, gold is cheaper to purchase in other currencies.

  1. Another recurring factor is geopolitical turbulence, like changes in European politics, tensions in the Middle East, and recurring risks in the Korean peninsula. Such international pressures can spur safe-haven buying and push gold prices higher.

  1. Changes in the number of gold buyers can also impact gold prices. Transparency, efficiency, and policy changes are broadening access to gold buyers everywhere. Fewer barriers to buying gold can mean increased demand, and accordingly, increased gold prices.

What are your thoughts on real interest rates as a driver for gold? PIMCO put out a good article claiming real interest rates are the single most important factor in the price of gold. Fundamentally it makes a lot of sense that real interest rates would drive gold since bonds are a competing asset. I made a quick chart on FRED showing the relationship:

While that looks convincing, I was surprised to find the correlation was just -18.4% so its tough to draw a conclusion on this.

Consider the link between central banks buying gold. And then also consider if CB's increase or raise rates what implications that may have on gold prices.....

Good morning,

For me Too - The liquidity hunt by the Smart Money is not over. The Sell Order block affect appears to be weakening as well. Keep a close eye on developments especially Geopolitical risks that will be used to back/set reasons for Gold's performance.

However: Price is King!

Bears have some hurdles at 1338.1 then next hurdle to break 1330.8.

4 hour still showing some bearish momentum but it's becoming somewhat flat so price may consolidate for a bit within a range.lower time frames showing some bullish divergence so should offer a chance to sell from a higher price....happy trading
