If you don't mind a very clumsy approach, perhaps a CALL and PUT option could be used in some fashion to protect against a runaway trend?
- Umberleigh replied Dec 4, 2022
Perhaps you could create a basket of pairs, the aggregate value of which would oscillate between drawdown and TP. The idea here is that "time" becomes your edge because you can choose to wait and close the basket when in profit.

Randu, I have an idea that could help mitigate the risk associated with trading the Hedging/Averaging strategy. I call it "Averaging the Spread". Could you add the following capability to your buysell EA?: 1) Add the ability to trade 2 or more pair ...

Genry_05, Would you be the now grown man...Connect495 ? Can you communicate with Evgeny?

gpsamj, Ikarus does a very good job of executing its core task (averaging grid). Perhaps the obstacle lies not with Ikarus but with the instrument(s) we are trading. We have established that Ikarus will blow up if it encounters a long, smooth trend ...

Guys, Be very, very careful with Ikarus. It is true that it can generate massive profits in favorable market conditions. However, the same power that creates can and will take away. At the end of the day, it all comes down to one measurement...how ...

url url These two links at Mataf will give you the pip value of each currency pair and the average hourly/daily range for all of the primary pairs. Once you normalize the pip values (so that they are roughly equal) you can measure the ADR of the ...

Regarding lot size weighting...you'll need to normalize the pairs by comparing pip value and volatility for sure and probably a few other things that I can't remember.

Yes, 7bit's work on this strategy is the best I've seen anywhere. Hmmm...7bit disappeared not too long after he finished up the thread. Maybe he hit on the right formula and retired from public life Old Dog followed up with some ...

Hi GCA, Using two or more instances of Icarus (properly calibrated), how would you go about managing the great problem of drawdown? Umberleigh
- Umberleigh replied May 13, 2022
Yes, I understand. I use "progression" setting #1 (d'Alembert) which progresses 1,2,3,4...etc. I plan on experimenting with the different "grid progressions" now. Thanks for clearing that up for me.

Thank you Kofix11. I agree that a properly selected combination of EA's can be set and synchronized well enough to perform well. Way back when you joined Forex Factory, there were some giants here. Over the last 6 months, I have enjoyed studying the ...

Francis, can you expound on your idea regarding the "martingale factor of Ksen"? Since Icarus' Grid Progression options include the conventional "martingale" setting (setting #2), I presume you are referring to a more flexible model that allows you ...

This is a live demo test (almost 3 weeks of trading). This is a combo of 3 EA's designed to run in tandem and support each other. One "averaging grid" which is Icarus...one "pyramiding grid" and one "indicator based pyramiding grid". So far, this ...

So far, I am testing with the H1 (default). I'm not sure if the EMA Filter is initiating properly on version 4.79 yet. Thang is working on the issue. My primary observation on 4.79 is that it did survive the big move last night, whereas my 4.77 ...
- Umberleigh replied May 12, 2022
Yes, I agree that reacting properly must be the key. Icarus can print money... as long as the long, smooth trend stays away. So, we are looking for ways to deal with the destructive, long, smooth trend. Maybe we could run a "pyramiding with the ...

I think the answer lies with the idea that we cannot predict the future with any certainty. Bad entries or good inputs have no real meaning when a market can and will change direction on you in an instant...and apparently for no reason. We do have ...

Rob, Better go with what Thang just said. His mind is deep in the code and understands the coding nuances much better than I do. Umberleigh
- Umberleigh replied May 12, 2022
Rob, Great question. I'm not 100% sure. I believe the signal to trade is determined purely by grid level price action (price movement in a particular direction), then, if you have all indicators set to "true" and any one of the indicators ...
