Please note:

Given the confinement of the population since March 17, response rates for business survey about February 2020 (collected during March) are lower than usual. Therefore, statistics published in this issue of Informations Rapides may be less accurate than usual. In the construction sector, the index for February could not be calculated because the professional bodies in charge of surveys in this sector could not process the data for this month.

All series are seasonally (SA) and working-day adjusted (WDA).

The commentary shows variations of subsections by decreasing contribution. The contribution of a subsection depends on the extent of the change and on its weight.

In February 2020, output increased again in the manufacturing industry (+0.9%, after +1.2%), as well as in the whole industry (+0.9%, after +1.1%).

Over the last quarter, manufacturing output decreased (−1.3%)

From December to February, output decreased compared to the previous three months in manufacturing industry (−1.3%), as well as in the whole industry (−1.4%).

Over this period, output declined in “other manufacturing”(−1.1%), in the manufacture of transport equipment (−2.8%), in mining and quarrying, energy, water supply (−2.1%) and in the manufacture of machinery and equipment goods (−1.7%). It plummeted in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (−5.6%). Conversely, it was virtually stable in the manufacture of food products and beverages (−0.1%).
