Odell Beckham’s $2 million watch now in authenticity controversy

Odell Beckham Jr. upped the ante in the accessories department ahead of the Browns’ 23-3 victory over the Jets on Monday night.

The polarizing wide receiver, who returned to MetLife Stadium for the first time since being dealt by the Giants earlier this year, wore an estimated $2 million Richard Mille watch during pregame warm-ups, defying previous NFL warnings and causing a recent social media stir over the authenticity of the flashy timepiece.

“I am off of it. I don’t really have any comment about it,” Beckham said postgame when asked about the seven-figure watch. “I think [Swedish brand] Daniel Wellington might be a better watch than these, a little classier, not as flashy as this one. I’m just blessed.”

London-based watch media site Watch Anish alleged Beckham’s warm-up piece was a cheap imitation.

“@obj wears a FAKE Richard Mille RM56-01 Sapphire (except his is made of plastic) during the warm ups vs New York Jets last night,” the outlet posted to its Instagram, claiming in a story shared Tuesday the “material is plastic not sapphire” and the “case shape is wrong.”

It remains to be seen what piece, if any, Beckham will wear when the Browns face the Rams on Sunday night.
