    Canada is drawing up plans for extensive tariffs against US products if Donald Trump follows through on his threat to put 25% levies on Canadian goods, according to people familiar with the matter. The Canadian government’s draft plans for trade retaliation go well beyond the narrow list of US-made items on which it placed counter-tariffs during a 2018 dispute, according to government officials. Back then, Canada chose to attack certain products, such as Kentucky-made bourbon whiskey, that are exported to Canada from Republican strongholds in the US. Canada exports 4.5 million barrels of oil per day to the US. It exports $30-$40 billion worth of cars and car parts to the US per year. In a trade war with the US, Canada will be hurt more than the US, but the US will suffer, also. Nobody wins in a trade war; this has been proved time and time again. The stupid thing about the whole issue is that Trump is threatening a trade war over issues not really related to trade. He cites illegal immigration and fentanyl coming from Canada into the US as problems. Well, these are actually very small problems, compared to migrants and drug flows from elsewhere. Whatever happened to diplomacy? Not a word in Trump's vocabulary. And now he honestly believes he can get Canada to become part of the USA. Insane.
