Inflation rate in 2023 at +5.9%
Consumer prices in Germany increased by an average of 5.9% in 2023 compared to 2022. As the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports, the inflation rate for 2023 was lower than in the previous year. It was still at +6.9% in 2022. “The inflation rate for 2023 was below the historical high of 2022. However, it remains high at just under 6 percent. Food prices rose particularly sharply on average in 2023,” said Dr. Ruth Brand, President of the Federal Statistical Office.
