Gold price powers to record high, backs off
Gold and silver prices are weaker in early U.S. trading Monday, after gold spiked to a new record high of $2,152.30, basis February Comex futures, while silver hit a seven-month high overnight. The two precious metals are now pausing after recent solid gains, which is not surprising. The shorter-term futures traders are taking some profits. February gold was last down $1.70 at $2,088.00. March silver was last down $0.302 at $25.56.
