Foreign trade and import prices - January 2023

In January 2023 seasonally-adjusted data, compared to December 2022, increased by +0.2% for exports and decreased by -3.2% for imports. Exports towards EU countries decreased by -0.4% and rose by +0.8% for non-EU countries. Imports from EU countries increased by +2.4% and fell by -9.6% for non-EU countries.

Over the last three months, seasonally-adjusted data, compared to the previous three months, increased by +2.9% for exports and dropped by -7.7% for imports.

In January 2023, compared with the same month of the previous year, both exports and imports grew (+15.3% and +8.4% respectively). Outgoing flows increased by +11.3% for EU countries and by +20.5% for non-EU countries. Incoming flows rose by +17.2% for EU area and decreased by -0.7% for non-EU area.

In January 2023, trade balance registered a deficit of -4,194 million Euros (-2,808 million Euros for EU countries and -1,386 million Euros for non-EU countries). Excluding energy, trade balance is positive by 3,566 million Euros.

In January 2023, import prices decrease by 3.5% on monthly basis (-0.1% for the euro zone, -6.3% for the non-euro zone). Over the last three months, compared to the previous three months, import prices decreased by 3.5% (-0.5% for the euro zone, -5.8% for the non-euro zone).

Import prices, compared to the same month a year ago, increased by 4.6% in January 2023 (+6.3% for the euro zone and +3.4% for the non-euro zone).
