The US recession of 2020 - The horror version
A year ago, we wrote the special The Recession of 2020 in which we predicted a mild recession to occur in the second half of this year. Based on a range of indicators we noted that the US economy was in the late phase of the cycle and we foresaw that the Fed’s hiking cycle would lead to an inversion of the yield curve, a reliable harbinger of recession. The yield curve indeed inverted and GDP growth slowed down during the course of 2019. However, the business cycle was not allowed to run its course.
