all i can say is your posts/'revelations' today are nothing new (to me, at least).

esbatu,
are u referring to skinfx's BEOB?
depending on your perspective, it worked out/didnt work out.
jarroo has pointed out a bar high (marked as dark green horizontal line) that held as support (i remember in 1of james16's videos wherein he points out single bar high/lows stopping price too).
some people ignore single bar highs/lows... these charts show that 'ignoring one bar high/low' (& dismissing it as 'unimportant') is sometimes detrimental.

Hello esbatu,
think of it more in the lines of 'the trend is the reason/culprit' than 'a single bar high stopped price'.
up to this point the uptrend is strong... lower prices are used as cheap entries. (plot a fib from 9 or 12bars back.. check it out.. probably a retracement entry)
i mentioned it in my previous post(last week). Sir jarroo earlier mentioned it too.
whether we have a good or mediocre setup at hand, (talking specifically about trouble areas) i think we must look at all the possible traffic areas that price may head into. in this case, u may have ignored that bar high &/or dismissed the potential of a good/strong uptrend since u were presented a 'good setup' (the BEOB).
Quote:
|
Even when I look back at the trade right now, I still come out with the same conclusion...
|
what helps is looking at the same setup with fresh eyes or a new/different perspective.
of course, if u look at it with the same view, then nothing will change.
Hope this helps

esbatu,
imho, it cannot be 'in hindsight' because the support (bar high) was there prior the trade. it's a matter of seeing it, recognizing it & not ignoring it.
Quote:
|
..If we see every bar high/low as FTA then we will get paralyzed by that, making almost every setup untradeable..
|
i didnt imply that u should treat every bar high/low as FTA (first target area).
what i meant is we should be aware of minor bumps (traffic area such as this bar high) so we wont fall/slip because of it (we wont get surprised on what happens). it seems u dismissed this bar high as a 'minor (useless) bump' so u discarded it entirely in your trade management.
if we were aware of the bumps (minor & major trouble/traffic areas), then it's a matter of reacting (exit, reduce risk, etc).
btw, i checked gbpchf charts...
if u plot a fib upwards from the April14 or 19 lows, u will see that it indeed is a 50fib retracement (went slightly past 50fib ret).
when price touched 1/6420 area, price made a quick reversal towards/above 1.6500.
also on H4, april15 & 16 highs (1.6390-95) may have played apart. so it turns out that it's not necessarily a 1-bar high bump/issue.

Anyway, let's look at the 2 Day PB Nov. 2009 and end of Jan PB of this year.

if we look at the finer details, the latter two are protruding (imho, these two were upside 'false breaks'). whereas the yesterday's BEOB (now formed a BUOB or a 2-bar daily PB) is embedded entirely in the consolidation.

to me, audusd daily, weekly & monthly look bullish.
shall we reach 0.9800 - 1.00 (parity)?? {probably +/- 3rd quarter 2010}
or
will we stall at/prior 0.94?
we will see

Hey esbatu,
i now understand why u said it's an inevitable loss.
not being able to monitor the charts as u like is sometimes a disadvantage.
but i wont go as far as saying that u misjudge the FTA. it's more of price having a different idea of its own direction at that time... or in short, it's more got to do about the (strong) trend.
Next trade...

jeffokes,
what do u mean?
for MT4/MT5
for an EMA...
in the indicators section, look for 'Moving Average'... with such settings:
set 'Period' to whatever value u like (150, 200, 365 etc)
set "MA Method" to 'exponential'
set 'apply to' to 'close'

Hey iForex,
those BEOB's are at a (swing) low. ideally, we want BEOBs at swing highs.
also, it's recommended that u zoom out when u study your charts so u'll see the 'bigger picture'.

Nice illustration fxeturn!
a little observation:
-the pinbar shown is quite small. about 60% of its body is embedded in the previous bar.
ideally, the size should be much bigger (this goes for all PA bars), with close below the open (for bearish PBs; close higher than the open for bullish PBs), & with most of the body protruding away from (as opposed to being embedded into) previous bar/s.

to be clear, u can put a note in your picture "for illustration purposes only (may or may not show the proper/best location of a particular PA bar)"
sometimes, a small PA can have a huge activity (activity meaning buying&selling). but in general, we would like to trade really big, prominent PA setups.
u changed your illustration for number 3 'pin bar'. that pin's close is lower than the open, & most importantly, its mid-part is embedded in a mini-range located on the left-side of that pin.
we ideally want a PA setup in a location (swing high/low) such as #7 is in: with space on the left & protruding away from the other bars.
Good job!

yes it's ok. time well spent.
if u want u can consider below info:
#4, is an Inside (multiple) bar.
personally, i think it's inappropriate to call every Inside (multiple) bar as an "I4B".
& it should write 'an IB with a pip range smaller than 2 or more preceding bars'
an IB with a range smaller than 2 prior bars is an I3B.
for your #4 example, i checked FXPro chart. it's an I7B (kindly check your chart accordingly).
