jspeakman, ghous,
the middle line of a Bollinger Bands 20,2 setting is a 20SMA.
(if the setting is 50,2, then the mid-BB is a 50SMA... & so on..)

jspeakman,
yes, it will overlap.. provided the MA u overlaid is a 20SMA (BB's use SMA's).
if u want all of the BB lines in different colors, then u can simply use the 'Bands' indicator on MT4 (found in the 'Custom Indicators' drop down list)

jspeakman, check out jankone's thread, if u havent yet.
(NOTE: jankone's method is directed to M5 trading, but it can be used on any TF; if anyone is interested in trading that in M5, i highly suggest 'mastering' J16 first before venturing into that thread/lower TF trading)

Cyrus,
dont forget there are outliers - a few people who didnt burn any live accounts because they approached trading with a business mindset from the onset.

personally, i burnt many $100 - $150 mini accounts (1:200 leverage/ $1 per pip.. ). although im an outlier, i tried to push way way past my limit (not to mention i was ultra-malnourished & pressured to make money).
in other words, i tried to hop/sprint () before i learned to crawl.
guess what, the market almost literally put me on my knees.
i just hope the newer traders do not emulate my audacity, in any way, shape or form: despite my being an outlier, the market still found a way to humble me (the odds at that time were ALL against me -- i tried to be a hero {as i love challenges} ).

again, the process is:
crawl - walk - run - sprint/hop
& NOT
sprint/hop - run - crawl

on M30 chart (FXPro), price is forming a quadruple IB (I4B, or I5b including the current M30 bar; on H1, IB or I3B).

Hey bro,
it's great isn't it?
the S/R's & PPZs will help us determine where price will go.
so it's just a matter of proper & excellent S/R or PPZ identification & a matter of being online to trade/take advantage of it.

another way to learn (which i did) is to review the charts (past/real-time; with PPZ's, S/R's etc) of any/all seniors here, as well as all the charts that were/are being posted.

i think what Sir jarroo meant by 'risky' is that one might be buying at a possible bottom.
1 reason we want BEOB (bearish PA setups) at swing highs is because of high probability that price will go down. if u take a BEOB at a (possible) swing low (or on a non-swing high location), then the probability of price continuing in one direction (down in this case) may be smaller.
that is why continuation PA setups are considered advanced setups.

Here's an analogy:
assume u are on the 4th floor of a 4 storey building.
1 storey/floor is equal to 10 feet (in height). since u are on the 4th floor, then u are (for the sake of discussion) 40 feet above the ground.
if u drop a ball (from your hand) to the ground from that height, then the ball can travel/drop downwards 40 feet.
but if u drop the ball from the 1st floor, then the ball can drop downward towards the ground only potentially 3-6feet (depending on your hand's location & your height) -- much less than when u drop the ball from the upper floors.

the 4th floor is the swing high; the first floor represent the possible bottom.

Hope this helps

Pinbar,
if i may....
i think with 'behave properly' he means price retesting the PA setup break area (in this case the PB's break area) & (right afterwards) moving in the direction of the trade (in this case, bearish PB, so trade direction is down).
'not behaving properly' in the above trade's context may mean price moving above the PB's break price (83.80ish to 84.10 or higher), stalling there or even moving/zigzagging higher.

Hope this helps

both trade setups can work successfully, depending on trade management, trading style, etc.

having said that, i'd like to know how your chart's daily PB looked like (specifically the PB's close).

in FXDD Demo, that daily PB's close(1.4470) is below the PB open & much lower than the left eye (1.4495). [almost similar case in FXPro live]
PB's ideally should close above the open (for bullish PB) & should close within the left eye.

this daily PB could potentially be a pause PB (a pause in the downtrend), or a potential start of a much more meaningful retracement or minor reversal. that depends if, imho, price stalls at or goes above 1.4600-1.4800 area.
Let's see...

...
i checked H1 & H4 too, indeed quick rejections around 115. looks like it's not a good hard break.

by the way, that PB is pretty small. it could be a pause PB (temporary pause in the downtrend). also the PB's high is just below the 115.00 (this round number may have caused trouble)

good/great setups are easier to manage. (because they often reach the target/s quickly or they move toward/stay near the target quickly)

on this eurjpy setup, depending on your taste/style, u can put SL to BE quick (or BE + X), &/or 'babysit' it (to see how price moves), since this is CounterTrend. also with CT setups, try not to expect much (profit).

hope this helps

so this is a 1 hour DAX chart.

small PB off a minor PPZ, double top.
heading to 6.00... & potentially further down or start ranging

personally, i look at other TF's (higher & lower TFs) to see what's happening 'under the hood'.
i'll probably have my stop at BE + X (BE + a few pips), at the same time have a target on. i'll see which of the two gets hit first.
or, if price starts moving in my favor, i'll tighten my trail.stop &/or widen my target.
i dont have a job, so i have the luxury of time (to monitor my trades).... so i can manage/trade accordingly.

u may have a different situation & most likely have a different trading style, taste, & risk appetite, so trade within your own comfort zone.

EDIT: eurjpy is above 115.00 again... so try to manage it well

Hello Sjr,
try & practice here.
if what u are using is a non-MT4 based platform, read the respective manual/s.
many here use an MT4-based platform/broker, like FXPro (u can try a free demo account)

again, Welcome to the thread!

i bet the answer is very clear. (unless u are deluding yourself)

perhaps u are making money on lower TFs because u are exiting quickly - i.e., making quick profits. whereas in higher TFs, u have to spend more time sitting than trading.

if u are doing everything via the 'natural process' (demo trading daily & up; lpotting good PPZs, S/Rs; applying patience & discretion in taking trades {A+ trades} ), then i believe the natural effect is that u will improve your lower TF trading + u will increase pickiness & patience. wouldn't u benefit from that?

try demo. it wont hurt you.

...
lol...
i did the opposite before:
was aggressive & overconfident, tried to run before learning how to crawl, went live early.... it was indeed the quickest way.... to fail in this business.

Daneel,
i had a similar experience with u.
i was like in a fast food store.
i look at the menu (trading systems) to see which tastes good.
i buy 2-4 items or more (2-4trading systems) & eat them simultaneously.
i did not order a certain 'meal' (thats james16 method) because it had certain 'ingredients' which i didnt like (that is, higher timeframes -- only because i had a very small account & was trading H1 & below, realized late that i can use the material here in lower TFs)

to everyone reading (new readers), i can tell u this:
u are here in the james16 thread. learn as much as u can. if u do well with this method, u can opt to branch out to several other methods/systems that u like (or have been using).

james16 thread teaches S/R trading - IMHO, this is the bedrock, the root of a tree if u will ---- u can branch out from here.

Hello kdee.
do u have a chart? (so the seniors can reply much better)
each broker can have different-looking PA setup.

here's my post yesterday.
i was replying to a gbpjpy post but i mistakenly replied with a gbpusd view.
trend, location & PA shape are important.
downtrend is strong, u should've considered that too.

fxeturn,
there seem to be 2 Central bank rumors:
US Fed buying of EURUSD
& Europe's ECB FX Intervention risk

not to mention Switzerland's SNB is defending eurchf around 1.4000.

That's a weekly chart.
that's 6 big figures (round numbers) in a span of 2-3 days.
something must be afoot. (obviously there's a different market sentiment today)

do u personally disallow yourself to view/trade H4 or daily charts?
u could've entered thru these lower TF's &/or u could enter with a tiny position if u wanna ride a bus without getting hurt drastically (account-wise).

Default my first Oanda chart post

james16,
if i remember correctly, u posted something very similar to my trade below (your post is 1 of the basis of my trade)

Pros:
strong support
MACD bullish divergence (white line on MACD)
SNB potential intervention (which indeed happen)

pure S/R trade, without a PA setup (PB, BUOB, etc)
[i'll search for that james16 post; if anyone gets to find it first, kindly PM me]

Sir james16, i post this specially for you

or the four consecutive (current) lower highs on your chart.

Hello skinfx,
most likely Sir jarroo is asleep now...
so, if i may....

are u referring to chart #2 & #3 in this post?
if so, that bar is in a range.
i can alternatively view that bar to be in a lower swing high.
but to be strict, it is not at a swing high or ideal swing high.

an ideal swing high/low has enormous amount of space on the left side of price.
the first chart (gbpchf H4) shows a good swing high (IPB followed by a huge BEOB @1.6900)

Hope this helps

Hello bertie,
it has been mentioned here many times before:
we dont go on trading every PA setup there is.

PA form/shape/size, location & trend are important.
imho, the latter two are more important -- u cant ignore them when considering taking on setups.
when markets are volatile, we have to be more strict & picky when it comes to trade choice & management.
if we perceive the market is too whippy &/or unpredictable, as much as possible we stay out. in times like these, there are a lot of money to be made & at the same time a lot of money are lost/profits pulverized. the latter happens much much more often.

Hope this helps

Dan,
200pips is a lot, bro.
if u are on account building mode like me, u got to bank some profits...
1/2, 1/3, 3/4 of the 200pip move, whatever, just bank some,
dont let it go to zero.

Hey Pinbar,
u should remember that this is a forum, & an international forum at that.
traders live in different timezones, got different lifestyles, got jobs, businesses etc.
add to that, this thread moves fast, its NOT uncommon to find several posts getting overlooked.

also, we always try to look for PA when we look at setups. perhaps traders didnt find a PA setup on that H&S in their respective charts, so...

perhaps, a confluence of the above factors were at play.

Pinbar will get it, because he is, after all, pinbar. he is the PA itself.
