Notice the bottom area where that original 61.8% and PPZ confluence area is.

Pretend this is a daily chart. ...there's a bar that was nearly a DBLHC or Outside bar off of it. IF it WAS a daily you made great mula up to that trend line ...or higher.

Fogot.... those downward pressure areas are around another 61.8 fib (backwards as 38.2 on this chart LOL)

Many thanks...Just about to read the last post you made.
Nicely done.

Just remember that just because you've found some PPZs doesn't mean they have to be respected. Use other confluences... Like deep fib retraces and trend lines etc in conjunction with them. That way you annihalate a large amount of the trades that are too close to 50/50 outcomes.

It's at this point I am totally happy to wear my half R% loss. Since I got the analysis right. That bounce is enough that any push passed it is just bad luck , it's just one of those trades that doesn't make my target.

When we hit the 61.8% low again I'm setting to Break Even. If it returns to the B.E. I couldn't give a toss by then. It 's got a better chance of failing if it does so. I move on.

Thanks emiliolopez. You are right some of the PPZs don't fit so well. It' good to swith timeframes and do some adjustments.
Oh Ok.

Yeah, well you are right about the first one.

The second one . Well sometimes they work out, but it's problem is actually the first pinbar! ...The first pinbar created a trouble area that the second one came back to before reversing. You needed faith to trade that one.

This is why I don't like taking trades with that situation. If there were a heap of straight, clean, bearish bars before the 2nd pinbar came along instead, where price moved cleanly without bouncing you'd have a better chance of it getting you some quick movement to manage with. ...Instead the first pin bars low just created a little mini-ppz to screw with your chances.

Does that answer your question? ...Let me know if not.

Keep in mind that the price action on the chart preceding your bars was Strongly bearish last week or two after the Massive bearish bar on the 6th of May. It's pretty much a down trend you are trading against. You can't take "iffy" trades in situations like that.

Cy,
You can only choose the situation you know how to trade and learn it like it's a body part. The rest you have to skip. You are going to miss a lot of moves in your trading life. You don't need to catch them all to make money.

Very well done with your TP/'trade management' levels there. Very well done.

For entries we also look for the confluence of two or more important 'studies'. ( 'Studies' being Fibs, S/R levels, Trend lines and EMAs etc.)

You've identified a tradable pin at a swing high that has come off of an EMA.

It's also good that it came off of a "PPZ" too as shown in my edit of your chart below. This, in my opinion helped your trade a lot in the entry department. It gave extra validity to the idea in confluence with your EMA.

Well done again with recognising the potential trouble areas. Shows how valuable those videos are. You've made a giant leap real early with that. Awesome.

A bit small of a pin if you were looking at reversing such a strong move down. Not really shouting out "reversal".

Nicely formed though.

Stay away from inside bars for the time being.

All the others you mentioned. ....Weighted towards Outside arBs. (easy to define and spot.)

Ahahh!! ...That's not quite it.

Big bars after longer runs are much easier to play than the more plentiful big bars in small ranges that I think you are noticing more often.

I can see where you are coming from. If a big bar has already travelled over half the distance of the last trend it get's harder to trade. Not impossible . Just harder.

Big bars after long runs though are waaaaaaay easier to trade. Look/wait for them.

Example... ("BIG" isn't necessarily "Gigantic" . It'll take a while to calibrate what your looking for. This bar is big compared to nearly everything around it. Can you see how something happened in the market at that point? )

I'll look for a second example with an even better chance of success. This one here doesn't "shout out loud". ....But it's close (And remember location location location above all else. )

No worries Rellyt.

You could spend the rest of your life trading Pins and Outside bars and make your fortune.

"Location location" should be your primary focus in all of this. Teach yourself the best places to trade as well as learning the bars.

Long run up. Months of smaller bars here that are useless as entry signals (in context of the bigger ones)

This goes on much further to the left too, but didn't want to zoom out.

That last bar would be killer if the close was right near the low of the bar. Open your charts and check out how far that last bar took us.

(edit:
Missed at least one tradable 'larger than other bars' signal in there. lol)

61.8% fib (deep fibs are best.)
109.00 round number.

Thanks Sir!
You can trade a great/strong BEB or BUB by itself from a great location as well.

...It's just about reading what price is doing. Don't have to be tied to definitions.

Personally , I'm just looking for a powerful sign of commitment in any move. I want a good sign that my choice of location is right and that the market is willing to give into that idea too. Or at the least isn't wanting to resist it too much.

Thanks Bundy.

Just currently simulation trading the EU on Daily TF.

May have a runner IB.
When the first Japanese fella first starting plotting candlesticks to represent the price moves of the day he didn't need anyone else to be doing the same. Did he?

Your price chart is showing the footprints of the hurd. The "Where" and the "How quickly"s.
Long before charting was popular, TA traders were able to make money off of those that were just buying and selling based on whatever reasons those other market participants had to do so.

Confluence of S/R factors is where the self fulfilling prophecy bit comes in. The more people who think $50.00 is a bargain the more chance that that level has of buyers over-powering sellers again once it's reached. If a certain amount of traders are watching a trendline that lines up with the level at that point in time as well, then even better. ....%50 retrace lines up too? ...even better again.

Time periods wise (Bars)? ...When the current 6 hour bar powers through levels that took the previous seven 6 hour bars to wade through on the way from the other direction, it's a strong indication of the buyer/seller story is changing.

It doesn't matter if your watching 1 hour bars or 36 hour bars. It's the same deal.

As long as the S/R levels you believe in give you enough room on your time frame to get a good trade in and managed nicely, then weird time frames don't matter. Choosing the 'Appropriate' time frames will.

Don't forget an efficient market creates all types of new opportunities all the time. If everyone trades the same outside bar on the one hour chart then there are those that will want to take advantage of that predictable behaviour eventually too, ...whether it's by flooding the market with the appropriate orders at the close of the bar to make it "Look" right, or by hunting all those delicious stop orders on the negative side of the bar.

...See? ...Self fulfilling prophecy doesn't quite work the same for that one does it??

Novice198
FTA = First Trouble Area ...The area that price is first expected to pause at. Whether it's a previous bar low/high or PPZ or trend line or whatever.

Without looking at Jaroo's original post I suspect that "no buffer entry" would mean that even if you entered 1 pip below/above the bar (no buffer. ) , ...you still wouldn't have had room to get far into profit before reversal.

If your first trouble area (FTA) is 20 pips away and you placed your entry order 10-pips above the bar's high (10-pip buffer) you would have only gotten 10 pips into profit before the first possible pull-back happened. ...a bit tight. You want better circumstances than that if you aren't confident of it pushing through further easily.

I think if you're careful with location and bar strength you can trade them like all the others.

Yeah the birdcage thing you had going isn't the best for a clear mind. lol

It's good you are identifying all the potential trouble levels with them, but narrowing your lines down to the ones that will give the best probability trades is where it's at.

Also...

Just to point out something that bugs me.

You've drawn the fib correctly... But I hate it when they are like this (RED marked Fib Range,my chart)
...So much easier to trade when things line up with the full range (GREEN marked fib range, my chart)

Putting both down is alright (to get confluence), but you end up with something that can give you analysis paralysis when they don't relate well.

When they relate well the RED range fits the GREEN one all pretty like.

It's nice when an instrument you're trading just lines up with everything you throw at it nicely.

Even though they aren't the best to begin a trade at. We at least need to be aware of the levels. (damn it!! lol)

Like I said, nice when they fit within each other etc. Makes it easier for me to plan my trade out that way.

Not that type of "bugs me". Don't have trouble with fibs.

It's just always better when everything lines up. ...More likely to bring no-brainer trades. I'm not just talking about fibs. PPZs and all that other stuff too. When they don't line up you are having to hang around the computer more often to manage the damn things. I'd rather be doing other things.

I don't know about that. Wouldn't it just be easier to break a coin into 8ths? ...i.e. Break in half.... break those in half.... break the four of those in half again.

Somehow I don't think the finger counting bit would be the motivator. lol

I have no problem believing that's why they chose an eighths based system. Had no idea that was the reason until it was brought up here. And it totally makes sense. So thanks for that.

When you mentioned it was because of the thumb, finger counting method, it's just way more obvious that breaking anything down (physically) is easier in a base2 way. Mechanically, you have straight fractures to work with.

...Even mentally.... Anyone ever tried to divide a pizza into ten slices?!? lol ...It's a lot easier to divide into 8 by a looong way.

If for example we have a price level clogged by a couple of candles as can be seen in the figure attached (marked by the yellow line and the red line).

If price is below that clogged area, then would the red line would act as a resistance zone? And if price breaks that red line,...
Hi Bun,

You pretty much have it right.

It can be either of those that will cause problems on the way up with the Yellow line being the strongest , since it took a lot more effort for that one to be breached upwards (It defined the top of the range!) . (i.e. It was the the absolute resistance level during the range. The more persistent level where sellers stood.)

For the opposite case (A break downward)... On the way down the absolute bottom of the range is the strongest, of course. With the red line just being a minor problem... or pause of price movement.

Chart time is good.

There are set-ups I trade that come directly from knowing particular behaviours and their most likely outcomes in real time.

That's the problem. Luckily you don't really need them.

When they happen like this though... (my chart)

This was drawn in a couple of weeks ago. I just changed it to yellow now to make it obvious which one I mean.
Have only taken two trades off of this in confluence with other stuff, but it still helps. Can't watch everything!

Thanks Mike. You reminded me to not only look at what price is doing but also think about what I would like to see it do for an even better set up.

Totally getting what you mean. But what we mean by swing highs and lows is there has been a run of bars (or PA) up until that point that has had some legs on it. ...Rather than a short pullback etc.

You probably DO need to calibrate your eyes a little with this one.

How big of a preceding run of bars is good enough? ...usually one with "space" as Mike so brilliantly explains it.

Example in my chart...

(yellow example would have been the type of place we'd want a swing high pinbar/etc to be at.)

So, basically, we need a run of bars showing strength then failure to break a RN, rather than the one in red which looks like an exhaustion bar?

Funny though, the one in red seemed to do better as a short than the one in Yellow, which seemed to range quite a lot.
I was just illustrating the swing high/low concept that many seem to think is something you don't know until history proves you are right.
...Well they ARE right in saying that, but we are talking talking about distinguishing between a trade that has room to move and one that doesn't.

The one in red is most likely to catch people out with a reversal and stop out loss after the break than one that develops at the yellow point. More importantly the yellow area has lots of space to accelerate down into profit with easier trade management. The red one you have to be a LOT more careful in the earlier stages of the trade. Which is trickier for a newcomer.

Trades that are at these potential swing highs/lows with plenty of "Space" are SO easy to make good gains off of if you pick a good location. The last major resistance to your chosen direction was at the opposite end of the move. It took 3 good bearish bars!! and a little more to get down to and match the last major order pool at the .8280 area.

In the case of the red position the last major resistance to your chosen direction (buyers) was less than a bars length away. Manage it right and yes , you made money. This time. But most newcomers would take a full bar loss if this one didn't work out. Those more experienced, wouldn't have. ..They would have been ready for that tight first trouble area.

As one situation, yes. But what I was really trying to get across is that "Space"-thing Mike explains so well in his videos in the guest section on James' site.

(Had to add to my last post on this to answer your question directly too.lol)

Rather like this trade Nasir is talking about on USD/CHF right now. I mean the confirmation of the break in this trade not the swing high, although it is on the weekly but that candle is still open.

I am watching it to see how he manages it.
That trade (especially looking at the bottom picture) is perfect example of a good "swing point" possability . Yes.

When those swing points also line up with PPZs etc it's even better. Yes.

Note how there is almost NOTHING in the way of getting to his red dash-dot-dot line below?? Awesome potential there.

Yeah. Played as range trade with full TP at intermediate high (Or short of). Waiting to see if it breaks that intermediate high now.

You've been been having a pretty intense learning period there mate. lol

Don't worry, it'll all fall into place better when you the learning slows down.

It is hard to believe it will all fall into place right now.

I feel almost as I did when I was a kid and took my fathers prized clock apart, with all the pieces on the floor in front of me, when I realized I had become so involved with taking it apart, I forgot to even think about where everything went. LoL

Still, I got it back together again.

I can't imagine you guys having ever spun your wheels.

What was your learning experience like Bundy?
The major learning of technicals was a decade ago, so it's hard to remember how that part was in an honest way. lol

I started with price action (head and shoulder patterns etc) supplementing fundamentals on stocks. Then wandered off and went through a phase of trying to learn indicators and so on, like many.

Seeing patterns comes very natural to me, so that parts always been easy for me to pick up.

Over the years I've had my fill of struggling with over-complicating things, over trading, over-confidence, under-confidence, miss-matched methods and many and ALL of the classic frustrating trader problems.
